Post-Conference Tour to
Sevastopol (Crimea)

The following information on a possible post-conference tour to Sevastopol (Crimea) is a private Information by Horst Kremers
It is  n o t   part of  or organised within the frame of the CODATA Kiev Conference!

I like to indicate on the possibility of doing a post-conference tour to the Crimea region (Sevastopol and Yalta).

The whole trip will be self-organised and is not part of the CODATA conference, formally.

But those, who for instance participated in the Great Wall trip after the Beijing 2006 CODATA conference know, that it can be a very nice time also for discussing not too much data aspects with the CODATA friends.

Mainly:

The tour can be booked individually as appropriate to one’s own schedule and travel preferences.
(so there is no minimum participants number, but I offer to do the necessary coordination.)

Flight from Kiev to Simferopol (see attachment, probably Friday Oct. 10 evening) download
Then Taxi or Minibus from Simferopol to Sevastopol (ca. 60 Euro per cab)    download
(same on the return way)

In Sevastopol, Hotel Ukraina can be booked by yourself according to your travel plans:
http://ukraine-tours.com/hotels/hotel.php?hotel=34
address:
2, Gogolya street

99000 Sevastopol
                               UKRAINE

I am pretty shure to find one minibus or more for the 2 trips I would suggest for
Saturday Oct. 11 (1/2 day tour of sightseeing in Sevastopol and surroundings, see seva02.jpg , seva24.jpg , seva29.jpg  )
Sunday Oct. 12 (1 day tour to Yalta via Angarskiy saddle-point, then return on coastal road (Krimean Riviera, see  seva13.jpg ))
(pictures from my last visit to Sevastopol)

Since I am myself invited to give lectures at the Sevastopol University part of Lomonossov University I will live in the guest house of the University (self-service apartments) and plan to leave Sevastopol on Wednesday Oct. 15 in the early morning for next duties in Prague .

Those who like the adventure of taking a night train from Kiev to Sevastopol (about 17 hours) ceratinly can book these on all international  railroad travel salespoints ( the 4-bed category should be minimum, but they also have 2-bed compartments in the trains (I tested it on my trip from Moscow to Saratov(Volga River) some weeks ago, it is about the same distance)).

For general information see e.g.

If you make your decision for that trip, please do the booking as indicated and let me know for coordinating the trips we would do on Sat. Oct. 11 and Sunday Oct. 12.

Best greetings

Horst Kremers
